في عام 1990 بدأ المهندسون في شركة " Sennheiser" في مشروع جديد يهدف إلى تصميم أفضل سماعة رأس في العالم، والنتيجة كانت سماعة الرأس الشهيرة "Sennheiser Orpheus" والتي يطلق عليها اختصارا اسم سماعة "Orpheus" وهي سماعة ذات تصميم أنيق وتحتوي على مكبر للصوت، هذه السماعة والتي عرضت للبيع وقتها بسعر 16 ألف دولار، حازت على شهرة كبيرة للغاية وحققت مبيعات كبيرة وحاليا أصبح يوجد فقط في هذا العالم 300 سماعة أصلية من سماعات "Orpheus" (ولذلك فإن هذه السماعة معروضة للبيع على موقع Ebay بسعر 30 ألف دولار أميركي)، ولقد ظلت هذه السماعة طوال العقدين الماضيين السماعة الأغلى في العالم إلى أن أعلنت شركة " Sennheiser" في يوم الثلاثاء عن إصدارها لنسخة جديدة من سماعتها الشهيرة " Orpheus" ومن المقرر طرحها قريبا في الأسواق وبيعها بسعر 55 ألف دولار، وبذلك تصبح النسخة الجديدة من سماعة " Orpheus" هي السماعة الأغلى في العالم... إذا ما الذي يميز النسخة الجديدة من سماعة " Orpheus"؟
طبقا لما ذكرته شركة " Sennheiser" فإن النسخة الجديدة من سماعة " Orpheus" تم تصنيعها بالكامل في إيطاليا مستخدم فيها تكنولوجيا جديدة تساعد على خروج الصوت بدرجة عالية من النقاء، وهي تكنولوجيا عملت الشركة على تطويرها طوال العقد الماضي، وهي تحتوي أيضا على مكبر للصوت مثل سماعة " Orpheus" الأصلية، ولقد استخدمت في صناعة هذه السماعة قطع من الرخام الفاخر الذي تم استيراده من مدينة كرارا في إيطاليا وهي المكان الذي كان الرسام والنحات والمهندس والشاعر الإيطالي مايكلانجيلو بوناروتي يحضر منه قطع الرخام التي يستخدمها في أعماله الفنية.
